Getting to know .....Phoebe Chapman
This is Phoebe’s 2nd season at the club. The versatile defender, who can also play in midfield, made her reserve debut at the start of her first season of senior football. Here is an in depth look at her career with Charlton.,,,
You’ve been at the club for two Years, what’s been your biggest achievement so far?
My biggest achievement after being at the club just over a year is making my senior debut for the reserves at the start of the season. Also picking up the players player award for the U16’s last year in my first season for the club.
How have things changed since you first joined the club, and how did you find the transition from girls to senior football?
I think I have developed a lot as a player. I feel have improved and come a long way since joining last year thanks to the excellent coaching I have received from the likes of Kim, Liam and more recently Luke. The step up to senior football was challenging yet exciting. The quality of football is better and faster however I’ve always enjoyed the physicality of the game so in that sense I couldn’t wait for the physical battle that senior football proposed.
Best thing about the club?
The best thing about Charlton is the togetherness of both the club and everyone involved.
As a player, what are your best attributes and what are your goals for this season and beyond?
I think my best attributes are tackling and ability to read the game, combined this allows me to break up attacks and gain possession for the team. My goals for this season are to win the league and go as far as we can in the cup competitions.
What advice would you give the younger girls in the club, and young girls across the country who want to develop from girls to senior football at a high level?
My advice would be to just enjoy your football! Never give anything less than 100% effort and always have confidence in your ability.
Let’s hear more about you and your teammates….
Do you have any pre-match routines or superstitions…?
No not really. I suppose just getting a good night’s sleep before the game.
Who is the joker in the team…?
Ellie Jeffkins never fails to make me laugh
If you could have 1 attribute of a teammate, what would it be…?
Lou Hembrough’s voice on the pitch. It helped me a lot last year in taking up a new position – she always supported and talked me through it. As for the team, I know we all appreciate her communication, her passion always shines through and she can always lift the team morale.
And finally…..who spends the longest in front of the mirror…?
Definitely Keegan Russell.
