4. Kimberley Dixson
Getting to know… Kim Dixson
Kim Dixson is the club’s longest serving player and our club captain. She is an integral part of the Charlton family, working for the Charlton Athletic Community Trust by day, and coaching our under 16s by night as well as being our midfield maestro.
Here’s a little insight in to Kim’s journey at the club…
You’ve been at the club for about 18 years, what’s been your biggest achievement so far?
I have been at the club too long to have only one biggest achievement: coming through the youth system at the club, being captain and playing for England under 23s.
How have things changed since you first joined the club, and how did you find the transition from girls to senior football?
I have played under a lot of different managers which has been good for my progression as a player and worked with some very good coaches.
The club has always had a great youth system with good progression pathway. There was never too much of a step up and I was able to progress in my own way and was pushed up when coaches thought I was ready.
What is the best thing about the club?
We are a family club and try to do everything together. We have players who are loyal and have been at the club for a long time and come through the system.
As a player, what are your best attributes?
Passing, first touch and work rate.
What are your goals for this season and beyond?
To go as far as we can in every cup competition and finish as high in the league as we can.
What advice would you give the younger girls in the club, and young girls across the country who want to develop from girls to senior football at a high level?
Listen to your coaches, want to learn and always work hard - put 100% effort in everything you do. And play with a smile on your face.
Let’s hear more about you and your teammates….
Do you have any pre-match routines or superstitions?
No, I just hate being late and will always leave extra early for training and games
Who is the joker in the team?
Alex Baker, although some others do try!
If you could have one attribute of a teammate, what would it be?
Scoring goals for fun like Gemma Shepherd or Kit Graham.
And finally, who spends the longest in front of the mirror?
Hard one, I would have to say Ruby Southgate will always have her make up bag near . . . . . .
