8. Charley Clifford
Getting to know . . . . .Charley Clifford
Charley Clifford, or ‘Char’ as she’s known around the club, is one of our best technicians. Not many in the league have her range of passing and technique on the ball. She is a ‘Rolls-Royce’ Midfielder who can head, tackle, pass and score goals. It has been great to see her progression and development over the years, and long may it continue…
Do you have any pre-match routines or superstitions…?
Not usually but I have one at the moment to have spaghetti on toast as my breakfast.
What is your favourite part of match days…?
My favourite part has to be when we first get the ground with the girls and putting our music on and having a laugh to relax before we get stuck in.
If you could have 1 attribute of a teammate, what would it be…?
I would love to have Kit Graham's strength and goal scoring ability.
Which teammate loves a tackle…?
Kimmy (Dixson) even sometimes in training!
Who’s guilty of the worst dance moves…?
I’d have to say myself after our xmas party!
A bit about you and your career at Charlton to date…
You’ve been at the club for 12 Years, what’s been your biggest achievement so far?
12 years! Winning the league and the league cup have to be the best moments in football. Also playing for England.
How have things changed since you first joined the club, and how did you find the transition from girls to senior football?
Things changed dramatically when I was 16 but I stuck with Charlton and now we have a great bunch of girls who are all willing to work hard for each other. The transition was huge, the pace of the game, strength of the seniors and general working hard.
Best thing about the club?
The togetherness this season has been spot on.
As a player, what are your best attributes and what are your goals for this season and beyond?
I think probably my passing range – as Simon (Webster) keeps telling me! My goals are to score more goals than last season and hopefully as a team we can win plenty of silverware.
What advice would you give the younger girls in the club, and young girls across the country who want to develop from girls to senior football at a high level?
To keep working hard and even on the down days to keep going and never give up!
