Charlton Athletic Football Club Women

Our Vision

“To play exciting, winning, competitive football at the highest level; through the daily pursuit of excellence both on and off the field of play”

Our mission

Charlton Athletic WFC have built the club on the principle of excellence. Our philosophy is driven by developing players to maximise their potential, to represent themselves, their family and the club with pride, both on and off the field.

Our people are at the centre of everything we do, and our staff are committed to providing a high performance culture that encourage the behaviours of creativity, positivity, honesty, trust and teamwork for our players at all levels. Ultimately as a club we are dedicated to growing our youth players into competitive women, who achieve excellence and success with a winning mentality.

Adult & Youth Playing Philosophy

In Possession

To dominate possession with positive decision making.

Quality passing, awareness, intelligent movement and support off the ball.

Creative, incisive and varied attacking play leading to goal scoring opportunities.

Out of Possession

A tactical approach to defending, in which all players contribute.

Controlled, assertive and intelligent defensive behaviors.

In Transition

On regaining possession our immediate thought is to counter attack with pace and precision.

To organize quickly in order to restrict the opponents opportunities to play.

Look to exploit attacking opportunities when defending set plays and look to restrict the oppositions attacks with appropriate defensive decisions during our attacking set plays.

Additionally, the playing philosophy actively encourages the individualistic player.

Encourage the players to develop varied and unique dribbling skills and the dexterity to go past defenders.

Individual creativity particularly in the final-third should be also encouraged.

About the club

Charlton Athletic Women's Football Club is part of Charlton Athletic Football Club. We are an FA Charter Standard Club and also an FA Girls Regional Talent Club.

We run two Women's Teams (First and Development) and four Junior teams (Under 10/12/14/16).

The Women's First team play in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division, the 3rd highest league in Women's football. They also compete in the FA Women's Cup, the FA Women's Premier League Cup, Capital (London) Senior Cup and Isthmian Cup.

The Women's Development team, who are an U21 side, play in the FA Women's Premier League Reserve Southern Division and also compete in the FA Women's Premier League Reserve Cup and the Capital (London) Intermediate Cup.

The Women's matches take place on Sunday afternoons and the teams train three times a week (see location section for full details).

Our Junior Section - U16/14/12/10 - is an FA Girls Regional Talent Club providing elite girls players the opportunity to progress on the England talent pathway.
Our Junior teams train twice a week (see location section for details)

All the Charlton Athletic Women's and Girls teams train at the Charlton Athletic Training Ground and wear hummel kit like the mens team. The womens section plays a number of games at The Valley each season and receive regular coverage from the Charlton Athletic media team.

A number of players are sponsored by PHSC plc who have been the womens and girls main sponsors over recent years.
