The Montana-born midfielder played for Oregon-based Women’s Premier Soccer League side Portland Spartans previously, which was later renamed Portland FC Mulhouse. From there, she joined FC Mulhouse, based in the west of France.

On joining the Charlton women’s team, Nelson said she was impressed with the quality of her new team mates and the coaching staff. “I fell in love with the girls, the coaching staff is phenomenal. I feel like this is a place where I can reach my full potential. To me it was a no-brainer.

“The girls are really positive, they all have the same mentality of wanting to succeed, wanting to win and push each other. I really appreciate that and it’s one of the main things that pushed me towards Charlton.

“They have a winning mentality and that shows in how they play; they play with heart and passion and they also have the skill to go with it and play together not individually. I think that reflects how they’ve been doing this season and hopefully it can continue.”

The 23-year-old joins a side that currently sit top of the FA Women’s Premier League South and admits she will have to impress in order to nail down a spot. “We’ll see what my role is in the team but either way I’ll be happy. I want to learn and I want to grow from the staff and the players and learn a little bit about myself as well,” she added.

“I feel I can contribute to that and that’s going to fuel my motivation to work hard to be challenged by the girls and to challenge them as well.”

Nelson began her career representing hometown side Missoula Strikers before moving to Portland and studying at and playing for Warner Pacific College. She says her strengths are her speed and ability to read the game.
