The Charlton women’s team are delighted to announce they have extended the contract of captain Kim Dixson ahead of the 2017/18 FA Women’s Premier League (FAWPL) season.

Dixson, who has been with the women’s team for 18 years, has racked up 231 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 44 goals in the process.

The veteran midfielder is a lifelong Charlton supporter and spoke of her pride in extending her stay with the club, saying: “It's a pleasure to play for the club I love and enjoy playing my football here.”

The 29-year-old lifted the Capital Women’s Cup last month after a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur after an improved end to the season, which began in tougher circumstances.

Dixson spoke of a “disappointing” campaign on the whole, but renewed optimism from the second half of the season means she is now excited for next season under the stewardship of confirmed first team head coach Riteesh Mishra.

Victories over both FAWPL Championship Play Off contenders Spurs and Blackburn Rovers, as well as a win against Cardiff City and two more narrow cup final defeats allow the club a platform to build on.

“We came a long way this season and finished strongly bar the last game,” she added. “I'm excited for the forth coming season which hopefully we be a successful one.

“We need to make sure we are ready for a tough pre-season, which we will need to be successful next season and start well. Hopefully we can get a strong squad together to do well next season.”
