The Charlton women’s team are still moving through the gears as they prepare for a crunch FA Women’s Premier League South match against Portsmouth at Privett Park, Gosport, on Sunday.
Both sides are unbeaten, with Pompey having taken maximum points from their four matches and Charlton sitting just one point behind with three wins and two draws.

One of those wins came narrowly against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday thanks to an 86th minute Jenny Newman winner after Bianca Baptiste had given Spurs an early lead that was cancelled out by Gemma Shepherd.

And, despite a less-than-impressive performance, especially second half, defender Rosie Paye believes there is more to come from her side.

She said: “I think we played well in the first half; first 10 minutes was poor but we stepped it up.

“Second half we just couldn’t keep the ball; we were playing long ball and I don’t think we’re a long ball team and the ball just kept coming back at us.

“But I think as a unit we defended well, at the end of the day we got the result.

“Portsmouth’s going to be a hard game, we know that from last season, but we’ve definitely got levels to step up.

“We’ve just got to stick together, you see everyone working hard for each other, if they lose the ball we’re back behind them and that’s what we’ve got to keep doing.”
