Riteesh Mishra insists the Charlton women’s team will not fear FA Women’s Super League (FAWSL) opposition when they face Sheffield FC in the SSE Women’s FA Cup third round next month.
After comfortably dispatching Portsmouth 5-0 at The Valley in the second round on Sunday, Charlton were drawn at home to Sheffield - who compete in the FAWSL 2, one division above the Addicks – on Monday.

And first-team coach Mishra admitted it will be ‘a very tough test’, but said his side will ‘go out to win the game’.

“I think it’s a great tie,” he added. “It will be a great chance to see how well we can compete against a Super League team.

“They’ll be coming down to us expecting to win, so this will release some pressure from our players and hopefully allow them to play with a bit more freedom.”

Charlton have had mixed fortunes in their two previous matches against Sheffield, with the Yorkshire side dishing out a comprehensive 6-0 thrashing in the FA Cup back in 2014.

However, a year and a bit later, it was a different story in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup final at Nuneaton Town FC. After a tight, goalless contest over 120 minutes, Charlton came out victorious after a penalty shootout with captain Kim Dixson, who opened the scoring at The Valley on Sunday, lifting the trophy to end a memorable day.

The match will take place at Charlton’s regular home ground, Sporting Club Thamesmead, on Sunday 5 February - ko 2pm.
