The Charlton women’s team head coach Riteesh Mishra is hoping his side will bounce back in their SSE Women’s FA Cup fifth round clash against Cardiff City on Sunday after the Addicks fell short against Lewes in the Quarter Final of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup last weekend.
It was an even 120 minutes, but a goal with 10 minutes remaining saw Lewes snatch the win and progress into the semi-final.

Mishra said: “Lewes have got good players and they’re a strong competitor in our league, it was always going to be based on fine margins, there wasn’t too much between the teams.

“This is a competition we wanted to go and win. We got to the final last year and lost on penalties. We wanted to go one step further this year, I think the players are good enough to do that.

“Ultimately, it’s a cup competition and the beauty of it is that it’s a one-off game. We knew coming into the game that Lewes would really be up for the match and they were.

“The players have been working their socks off, we’ve got a relatively small squad with the same players playing week-in week-out and I think that took its toll.”

It was the second time in as many weeks Charlton had to play 120 minutes of football, after dramatically beating Blackburn 3-2 in the FA Cup the week before.

“Our focus goes onto next weekend, which is another big cup-tie. We’ve just got to get back to training, work hard, we’ve bounced back well in previous games and I think we can do it again.”

The Addicks travel to Wales with a big incentive to progress a stage further. “We’ve got a chance to get into the quarter finals of the FA Cup, which would be brilliant for the club and for the players.

“I think our focus now has to be to recover our bodies and make sure we get fit and fresh for next weekend. I think the girls are going to bounce back and now we’ve got even more of an incentive to go and win that game,” Mishra added.
