Mia Sellar admitted she was surprised by winning the PHSC plc Player of the Month award for the Charlton Women’s reserve team.

The youngster made it a profitable week for centre of excellence graduates in their first senior season, winning the award in the same month Kit Graham stepped up and grabbed a brace on her reserve debut against Watford a fortnight ago.

Central midfielder Mia impressed throughout October and said: “I am surprised to have won it as I am still finding my feet but I feel more confident as a player and hopefully I can progress more.

“It has been going well. I have learnt a lot but we haven’t been performing too well. Hopefully [the win against Watford] will give us a boost. I think a few of us girls needed it.”

The reserves performed well last term, finishing third in the top flight, but have struggled this season. Mia hopes to find that form once again sooner rather than later.

“We have to try and match that or improve it but hopefully towards the second half of the season we can pull it out of the bag and pick up a few wins. We are certainly on the right road,” she added.
