Midfielders Megan Chandler and Kim Dixson were named PHSC plc Players of the Month for February this week
Megan Chandler was pleased with her performance for the Charlton women’s team during their 2-0 League Cup victory over Gillingham on Wednesday.
The midfielder started only her second game for the first team this season in Chatham, having impressed with the reserves recently, and was named PHSC plc’s Player of the Match.
The award was added to when she was named as the reserve team’s Player of the Month for February by manager Bill Long on Thursday.
Megan did well against the Gills, playing alongside skipper Kim Dixson in the middle of the park, controlling the match and showing an impressive range of passing.
After the game, she said: “It was hard and you could probably tell I was blowing!
“It’s just good to get a run out, I was surprised I was playing and was nervous to a point where I wanted to cry but we won and that’s the main thing.
“I just wanted to do well for the team but I was happy with my individual performance. I will just go from there. I just want to keep performing whenever I play, whether that is first team or reserves.
“The girls were great. They are always making sure I am doing what I need to do. I know they are always going to be there supporting me, even if I make a bad pass, so that always helps.”
Having come into the first team last season as a centre back, Megan has been playing for the reserves in a holding midfield role, which is a role she prefers.
She added: “I prefer it much better. I get much more of the ball, there is more freedom and I love attacking and going forward, even though I can’t shoot, as you could probably tell today.”
Meanwhile, the first team’s Player of the Month award went to Dixson, who also won the Player of the Match award against Derby County.
The skipper feels her game has come along in the second half of the season, after a disappointing start to the campaign, by her high standards.
She said: “I have just been trying to push on this month, try to better myself and improve a lot. I haven’t been playing as well as I know I can during the first half of the season so I want to see if I can play better.
“I have definitely enjoyed winning this month and I think, as long as we keep winning, confidence will really go up and we can push on and achieve what we feel we can achieve this season.”
