The Charlton women’s team are delighted to have appointed Paul McDonagh as new first-team manager, following the resignation of Jeremy Parsons on Wednesday.
Paul will take over for his first match on Sunday against West Ham United at Thurrock FC, with Riteesh Mishra continuing as assistant manager.

Chairman Stephen King described McDonagh as ‘a ready-made replacement’, having served as assistant manager under Parsons for the first half of last season. Since the start of the season, he has been working as technical director for our Regional Talent Centre.

King added: “It makes good sense for Paul to extend his role to cover the senior squad. Longer term, this will enable a smoother progression of players from junior to senior level.

“It is now up the players to demonstrate that they can put in the consistent performances that Paul will expect and demand.”

McDonagh described the move as ‘the natural progression’ in his career and is looking forward to the challenge of facing struggling West Ham on Sunday.

“Pleased to get on board in terms of the management. I know the league, I know the players – although there are a few I am not familiar with – so it should be quite an easy transition,” he said.

“That’s probably why it’s a natural progression as well, because I’m aware of a lot in terms of the club.”

We will have more reaction from Paul to come tomorrow morning as we build up to his first match in charge.
