Ejupi returns to the club, where she came through its centre of excellence and played five times for the first team through 2011-13, as manager Riteesh Mishra’s eighth signing of the summer.

Upon putting pen to paper, Ejupi said she was pleased to be back at Sparrows Lane. “I grew up playing for Charlton. I worked my way up the centre of excellence so it’s good to be back home.”

On reasons for returning to the club, she added: “I really enjoyed my season at Villa, but I wanted to come back to London and Charlton’s my local side. I’ve got a few friends here, so it’s good to re-connect with them and I’m excited to carry on playing in the Championship in Charlton’s first time in the league.”

Having played at this level last term, Ejupi is in a perfect position to assess her new side’s chances in a division they are new to, stepping up having won promotion from the FAWPL last campaign.

“I think we’ve got a really good team here and we can definitely push to finish top three in this division with the quality we’ve got. We just have to focus these next few weeks and make sure everything’s in place,” she added.

Ejupi left the Addicks five years ago left to study at the University of Nottingham, during which time she played for FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division side Nottingham Forest and FA Women’s Super League 1 side Notts County.

She spent last season in the FAWSL 2, where she was an ever-present as centre forward for Villa.
