League Cup derbies for the New Year

The First Team have been drawn in a group with Brighton, Gillingham, QPR and Millwall in the League Cup
With the good progress of league fixtures during the first half of the season, the FAWPL Management Committee have elected to run the initial stages of the League Cup in Group Stages to give the teams more games.
The Group stage will see five groups of four teams and two groups of five teams to play each other once, based geographically to limit travel expenses. Each team will play two home matches and two away matches in Groups of five teams and draws to decide which teams will play two home matches or two away matches in the Groups of four teams.
The teams finishing winners and runners-up of each group along with the best two third-placed teams (decided on the third-placed team’s results against the second-placed team and fourth-placed team only in each Group based on, and in the order of, the highest number of points obtained in these matches, superior goal difference from these matches, higher number of goals scored in these matches, drawing of lots) will progress to the last 16 of the competition.
The Last 16, Quarter Finals and Semi final ties will be knockout on a national basis.
