The Charlton Women were pleased to bounce back from last week’s loss to Manchester United by getting back to winning ways this Sunday.

The Addicks suffered their first loss of the season against Casey Stoney’s unbeaten side, but followed that up with a comfortable 2-0 victory against Sheffield United at The Oakwood two days ago.

Goals either side of half time from Amber Stobbs and Charley Clifford sealed the win and moved Charlton up to third in the FA Women’s Championship table, just three points behind Manchester United.

And defender Charlotte Kerr was not only pleased with the win, but also with their second league clean sheet this term.

“Last week was tough against Man U and while we knew it was going to be a tough game, we set out to win. So to bounce back and come out with a strong performance on Sunday was really positive,” said Kerr.

“They didn’t make it easy for us. We just kept composed, stayed strong at the back and tried to not let them play the way they wanted to. It’s nice to keep a clean sheet, especially after conceding three goals last week when we’ve done so well in the last few games.

“We could easily have put that game to bed before we did, too. We’re creating the chances; we just need to finish them. But that will come - we’re growing as a team and eventually it will work out.”

Charlton are back in action next Sunday with a local derby against Millwall Lionesses at Princes Park, Dartford. The Lionesses currently sit bottom of the Championship, with just one from their first five games, and come off an 8-0 loss to leaders Tottenham.

The Addicks already have a 4-2 victory over their South East London neighbours to their name in the FA Women’s Continental Cup, but Kerr says her side will not be complacent. “Every game’s going to be tough this season,” she adds.

“We’ve played them before so we know what they’re going to be about. They will make it hard for us.

“But since we last played them in the cup we’ve improved so much so I definitely think it’s another game we can get three points from.”
