Charlotte Gurr has been named as the SSE Women’s FA Cup Player of the Round.
Gurr was instrumental in the Charlton women’s team’s 3-2 win over Blackburn, netting once and setting up the winner late in extra time. The forward has scored five goals in her past three FA Cup appearances for the Addicks.
“I’m over the moon, the FA Cup is a really big competition. With the quality of players that came into that round, to actually win the award, I’m delighted,” she said.
Gurr won the award over professional Women’s Super League 1 players, who had entered at the fourth round stage. “When they told me I had won the award I was shocked, I couldn’t believe it.”
Gurr praised her teammates in her reaction to winning the award: “In the game itself I think everyone from the goalie all the way through to the forwards played their part massively to get the win.”
Gurr scored four goals against Swindon prior to the FA Cup clash against Blackburn, so went into the match in good form.
“I’m having a good season, I haven’t been this confident for a while. But we knew Blackburn were going to be a very good team.”
Charlton will travel to Cardiff this weekend for the fifth round of the competition, having already played them away this season winning 3-1.
“The FA Cup is a really great competition to play in, and you want to do your best when you’re playing against the best. Hopefully we can push on and beat Cardiff and get a big team in the following round.
“We know what [Cardiff] are like, they’re going to be a very good team, we know their strengths. Hopefully we can get through another round and into the last eight.”
Gurr joined Charlton in Summer 2017 from Gillingham Ladies, and has hit the ground running in her first season, with this award highlighting that.
“The girls have been great, the staff have been great. I feel like I’ve fitted in really well,” Gurr added.
