Kim Dixson is hoping the Charlton Women’s team can recapture their away form of last season as they prepare to face Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The Addicks were unbeaten on the road throughout last term but have already lost to newly-promoted Coventry City.
Skipper Dixson now wants her side to send out a message to the rest of the league by completing a double of wins over one of the title-favourites.
She said: “Having a break this week was not too good for us because I think we could have built up some momentum after the win against Watford.
“If we get our heads down and play like we know we can then we can get a result and go on a little run.
“I know they have brought in a few players on loan and improved since the last time we played them but that shouldn’t faze us.
“With the game being away, we have the chance to make a real statement. We have shown we can mix it with the top teams after the Sunderland game but we need to get results elsewhere as well.”
After a disappointing loss at home to Leeds United, the Addicks had a weekend off before bouncing back to ease past basement club Watford.
The break between Leeds and Watford matches came at a good time for Charlton but Dixson feels they need to show they can close games out against the better sides.
“I think we needed that break so we could get back to the training ground and work on a few things after the Leeds result,” she added.
“We got back to winning ways against Watford, which was a game we couldn’t afford to lose as they have only picked up one point this season.
“It could easily have been more [than 2-0] because I think we took our foot off the pedal in the second half. We can’t afford to do that against some teams in this league.”
