After helping the England under 19s qualify for the European Championships, Fliss Gibbons is looking forward to returning to the international fold with a training camp this coming Jubilee weekend.

Fliss will be joined by team mate Ellie Bailes, who was ruled out of the last squad through injury, and 30 others for the camp at Warwick University with the prize of a place at the Euros in Turkey up for grabs.

Despite not adding to her three caps for her country during qualification, Fliss enjoyed the experience and was pleased the squad made the main tournament, having missed out last year.

She said: “It was really good to be there and to be involved. I didn’t play a part in any of the games but I wasn’t even expecting to go so just to be part of the squad that qualified was great.

“I was made up for the girls to be honest because they just played the other teams off the pitch and, after not qualifying last year, this is a good achievement.

“It was good to experience proper tournament football. There was lots of pressure, it was really professional and I always learn loads when I am with England and hopefully what I learn there I can bring back to Charlton.”

With motivation such as a trip to the European Championships on offer, Fliss is remaining grounded and not looking too far ahead of herself, adding: “I’m just going to take it as it goes.

“I am not expecting to be called up for the finals at all but I am looking forward to the training camp.

“I always enjoy them and I always learn a lot. I am just taking it one step at a time at the moment and taking what I can from it and do my best.”

The camp takes place between June 1-4 in Warwick with the European Championships between June 27 and July 15. England’s first game in the competition is against Sweden on July 2.
