We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded an FA Girls Regional Talent Club licence
After a long six month application process we were delighted to hear today that we have been awarded an FA Regional Talent Club Licence.
The FA decided to replace the Centres of Excellence, which Charlton were part of until 4 years ago, as they restructured the girls England Talent Pathway. Centre of Excellence Licences run out at the end of 2015/16 and clubs across the country were invited to apply to become a Regional Talent Club (RTC).
A total of 34 clubs have been selected to become Regional Talent Clubs on three year licences and will deliver coaching and education to the best young female footballers in the country. Clubs will receive Sport England & FA funding depending on their Tier status and fulfilling the licence criteria.
There are three different tiers of clubs - 1, 2 & 3 - and we have been awarded Tier 3. With Charlton Athletic's excellent new faciliies at their training ground and our excellent teams of coaches and support staff our aim is to achieve Tier 2 status as soon as we can.
The RTC will run U10/12/14/16 age groups and this will be by school years (by 1st September) which is something we are used to.
Our U16s & U14's will play matches against Tier 2 & Tier 3 RTC clubs so we can look forward to matches against Chelsea, Millwall, Gillingham & Reading.
The U16s will also enter the FA Girls Youth Cup for the first time in our history.
The U16s & U14s will also play some friendly matches against boys teams.
Our U12s & U10s will compete in a local Charter Standard boys league so we will be able to build on the development we have gained this season by playing boys teams in friendlies.
We are hugely looking forward to being a Regional Talent Club and hope to make Charlton Athletic the club the talented young girl footballers in South and East London and Kent aspire to play for . . . . . . Come on You Reds!!
