Reserve team captain, Claire Goldsmith won the PHSC reserves Player of the Month award for September

The 19-year-old centre back has led her side to victories over Watford and Millwall Lionesses, draws against Gillingham and Bristol and the side’s first defeat of the new campaign in a closely fought encounter against Arsenal at Sparrows Lane on Sunday.

She said after receiving the award: “I’m kind of proud of myself as I wasn’t expecting it - so it a surprise… but a good one!” After her impressive work in the heart of defence the skipper is optimistic about the rest of the season and confident to keep on performing: “I hope so. If I keep working as hard as I have been, then I am sure I can.”

She has been pleased with her team’s efforts: “In the reserves we have a lot of players coming in and out and so we have had to adapt to a variety of formations. I think we have dealt with that quite well” and she said: “As a team we have bonded really well too with the new girls coming up from the u17’s.”

On her personal performances so far this season she said: “I feel more confident and believe in myself a bit more. The more I play the more my confidence grows and then ability can improve as well” but the captain sees fitness as the main area she needs to work on: “I need to get fit! I am still working on my fitness as we haven’t hit peak fitness yet from the start of the season.”
