Charlton Women booked their place in the Ryman Women`s Cup Final with a storming victory over Kent neighbours Herne Bay at Sporting Club Thamesmead on Wednesday night.
Charlton started strongly and Gemma Shepherd`s early 30 yard free kick was comfortably saved by keeper Sarah Cooper.

Loose passing by the home defence then saw former Addick Danni Farmer fire in an effort that went harmlessly wide.

Great build up play between skipper Kim Dixson and Shepherd saw the former take too long to get her shot in before Cooper was called into action again tipping away a fine strike from Ellie Baxter.

Cooper continued to deny the Addicks with excellent saves from Shepherd and Stef Simmons.

Finally after 21 minutes the home side opened the scoring after Kit Graham`s shot was blocked and left back Katie Flack was on hand to turn the rebound into the bottom corner.

Cooper produced another fine fingertip save to deny Shepherd before the Addicks striker then headed Amy Howlett`s cross over the bar.

Shepherds persistance was finally rewarded on 34 minutes when she headed into the bottom corner of the goal from Simmons` cross.

Farmer then fired a free-kick wide for the visitors before Baxter almost converted a cross.

The final action of the half saw Kit Graham add the Addicks third as she surged past 3 defenders before slamming the ball home from 10 yards.

It took Charlton just 25 seconds to score after the break as Amy Howlett`s cross was met first time by Simmons.

Just 5 minutes later the ball looped kindly off a Herne Bay defender and Graham made no mistake from close range.

A rare foray forward from the visitors saw Kate Foster screw a long range effort well wide before Shepherd turned a defender and slotted home her second and Charltons sixth goal.

Just past the hour mark Jenny Newman raced on to a through ball and fired the ball across Cooper for the goal of the game.

Fitness was now really beginning to tell with Herne Bay visibly struggling and on 79 minutes a well flighted cross from Howlett was headed home by Nikita Whinnett.

In the final minute Newman netted her second from close range to make it nine.

Ryman Cup holder Charlton will now face Tottenham in the Final in April. Details to be confirmed
