U16s fought back from 2-0 down to win a place in the Capital Cup semi-final with a nail biting penalty shoot out
Charlton U16s 2 QPR U16s 2 AET - Charlton win 4-3 on penalties
Charlton started off brightly on a good surface at Sparrows Farm with striker Lauren firing a 20 yard effort narrowly past the far post.
Shortly after skipper Ellie saw her 25 yard free-kick crash off the crossbar.
QPR then took the lead in rather fortuitous circumstances after the ball clearly came off their forwards hand before she shot past keeper Rachel.
Matters got worse for the Addicks as Lauren was forced to leave the field having clashed heads with a Hoops defender.
Shortly before the break Rangers added their second after they worked the ball well along the by-line before netting from close range.
Charlton, although they had dominated much of the 1st half, now had it all to do. They responded to coach Kim Dixson`s half-time team talk by pulling an early goal back as striker Lucy smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
A quick break from Rangers saw Addicks keeper Rebecca alert to the danger as she rushed off her line to make a good save.
Charlton then dominated the game and a powerful effort from Hannah was well saved by the Hoops keeper.
A superb through ball from Ella cut through the Rangers defence picking out Hannah who brought another fine save from the Rangers keeper.
Time was running out and Dixson threw caution to the wind by playing three in defence and pushing speedy full-back Maddie into attack.
With minutes remaining Cansu threaded the ball through to Maddie fired home with her left foot to level the score.
The game went into extra-time and Addicks keeper Rebecca made a great fingertip save from a lofted shot to keep Rangers at bay.
Rangers had the better of extra-time as Charlton began to tire but Maddie almost nicked a winner as her shot on the turn forced another good save from the Hoops keeper.
Unable to settle matters in extra-time the game went to penalties and what a shoot out it was. With 20 penalties taken it was 3 a piece with Maddie, Cansu & Ella finding the back of the net for the Addicks.
Player of the match keeper Rebecca then made yet another excellent penalty save before firing home the winner herself .......phew!!!
Charlton are now away to Hampstead Pearls in the semi-final on 15th February. The other semi-final sees Enfield Town play Kinja.
