Charlton Athletic women`s Reserve team kicked off their cup campaign against Chichester City Ladies FC in style with a convincing 6-0 win courtesy of an Olivia Cole hat trick a brace from Kylie Manktelow and Kelly Stubbington.
Playing at Coldharbour Leisure Centre the hosts started well dominating possession but it was the visitors that threatened first with some quick counter attacking football. However it was a counter attack of their own which gave the Addicks the lead when Goalkeeper Alex Baker collected a cross and delivered a pin point pass to striker Kelly Stubbington who brought the ball down well under pressure to slip a pass in between the defence for the on rushing Kylie Manktelow who made no mistake with a cool side footed finish low to the keepers left (11mins).
Again it was another counter attack initiated from Vice Captain Baker this time the ball falling to Olivia Cole who played a diagonal through ball to the right of the pitch as Manktelow burst through once again to bag her brace after an exquisite chip over the onrushing Chichester stopper making it 2-0 after 16 minutes.
Kelly tried to get in with the action but was denied when her volley from Kylie`s left sided cross was gathered by the busy Chichester goalie.
However it was Cole who completed the scoring for the half as a perfectly weighted through ball from Daisy Monaghan found Megan Mulholland who whipped in a delightful ball found Stubbington who set the ball back to Olivia and her first time strike found the bottom corner making it 3-0 (30 mins).
The Reds began the second half in ruthless fashion as debutant Keira Jenkings delivered a high cross from the left flank finding Olivia who flicked the ball over the outstretched keeper and into the net on the 47th minute.
Olivia then completed her hat trick on the 55th minute as Monaghan once again threaded an inch perfect ball leaving Cole to round the keeper and slot it cooly into an open net.
With the tie all but sealed a triple substitution was made on the 57th minute as Kylie, Olivia and Daisy left the field of play to be replaced by Charlotte Barnett, Kristina Manktelow and debutant Evie Rose.
It didn`t take long for the changes to have an impact as Mulholland broke down the wing through the defence only to see her shot cleared brilliantly by the defender. Again Jenkings tore down the left flank to deliver a looping cross and Leigh Houlihan`s first time flick beat both defender and goalie but was denied by the upright.
More chances came as Kelly and Kristina linked well but the latter unable to find the target. Stubbington had another volley saved by the visitors stopper who was determined to keep the score respectable. Then Chichester nearly scored a consolation goal as their hard work and high pressure play was rewarded when they dispossessed Georgia Richards in the middle of the pitch to play a diagonal ball to the right winger and hitting the ball on the bounce beating Baker but not the cross bar.
Then on the 83rd minute the tireless Stubbington finally got on the score sheet as she converted from a left sided cross high into the goal much to the delight of the team and securing Charltons place in the next round of the cup with a 6-0 win.
Manager Warren Clarke had this to say "Today`s game was a step in the right direction not only did we score fifty percent of our chances but we keep a clean sheet which will give us massive confidence going into the next match".
