The Charlton women’s team beat Chichester City 4-1 on Sunday as the Addicks head into next week’s FAWPL Championship Play Off Final in good form.
Kit Graham, needing two goals from this game to win the FAWPL South`s Golden Boot, scored a dramatic last minute goal to clinch the award.
The Addicks took the lead in the 11th minute through Charlotte Gurr - superb skill from Graham in the box allowed her to get past the Chichester defence and square the ball to her strike partner, who hit her shot perfectly into the bottom corner.
Not long after, Graham had the ball in the back of the net but the linesman ruled the goal out for offside. The Addicks kept applying the pressure but to no avail, In the 24th minute Olivia Lukasewich headed the ball on to Graham whose first time effort was fired wide.
Just three minutes later Lukasewich again did well to intercept and set up a counter attack for the Addicks. Her long ball found Graham who then sent in a driven cross to Charlotte Lee in the area, but her effort hit the side netting.
Chichester found their way back in the game, on the half hour mark Chloe Melton saw a long distance effort rifle against the crossbar as Startup was scrambling back to goal. With five minutes to go of the first half, Startup made a superb save, tipping a powerful strike onto the bar.
Charlton were quick off their lines after the break, as Lee was denied a one-on-one chance as the Chichester keeper did brilliantly to palm the strike away.
On the 61st minute Graham got her first of the game with a fantastic lob to make it 2-0 to the Addicks. She almost added the elusive second three minutes later when one-on-one with the Chichester keeper. She looked certain to score, but her shot was tipped round the post to deny the goal.
On the 77th minute Chichester got one back, as Natasha Stephens` shot from 18 yards out found its way into the back of the net to make it 2-1.
Charlton hit back quickly though with Gurr getting her second of the game with a fantastic powerful header that flew past the Chichester shot-stopper. In the fifth minute of injury time it seemed like Graham would have to settle for a draw for the golden boot, until the Addicks won a dangerous free kick.
A clever set piece routine worked out perfectly as the ball was played into Graham’s feet, Graham turned and slammed the ball into the back of the net to secure the golden boot and Charlton’s 4-1 victory.
The Addicks travel to Bramall Lane next week in a bid to win promotion to the FA Women’s Championship against Blackburn Rovers in the FAWPL Championship Play Off Final.
