The Charlton Women`s team kicked-off their season with a comfortable win against newly promoted Swindon Town
On a hot sunny afternoon at Sporting Club Thamesmead the Addicks controlled much of the game netting two goals in each half to pick up their first 3 points of the new FA Women`s Premier League season.
Charlton could have taken the lead in the 1st minute as a goal bound header from Charley Clifford was tipped away by Swindon keeper Robyn Levett.
Levett was soon in action again parrying and then saving a long range strike from Avilla Bergin.
A quick counter attack from Swindon saw their striker fire narrowly over before Clifford broke through the visitors defence only to see her low drive saved by Levett.
The Addicks opened the scoring after 11 minutes when Kit Graham`s ball back into the penalty area was deflected into the air and full-back Katie Flack sent a back header looping over Levett into the empty goal.
They only had six minutes to wait for their second goal as an inch perfect pass from Graham picked out Gemma Shepherd who clinically finished from the edge of the area curling the ball into the bottom cormer of the goal.
A mistake in the Charlton defence presented Swindon`s impressive Georgia Walters with the ball forcing Addicks custodian Alex Baker to make an excellent save with her feet.
Charlton pressed forward again with Graham forcing a fine fingertip save from Levett who then denied Clifford by saving with her leg.
A mazy run from Bergin past three defenders saw Levett make another smart save with her feet and minutes later Bergin curled a fine effort inches over the upright.
Charlton continued to dominate and skipper Kim Dixson toe-poked an effort agonisingly wide before Shepherd chased a ball over the visitors defence and lobbed her effort wide.
The Addicks started the second half in similar fashion as Bergin`s long range effort flew wide of the goal and Clifford saw another header well saved by Levett.
Charlton added a third goal on 54 minutes as Bergin and Shepherd combined well to set up Graham to fire home her first goal of the season.
Swindon pushed forward and won a corner which Chyna Collings headed wide.
On 71 minutes Charlton`s Player of the Match Clifford sent a superb 35 yard effort flying into the top cormer of the goal for the Addicks fourth goal.
Full-back Katie Flack pushed forward and cut in from the left flank to send a powerful strike narrowly over the crossbar before a late free-kick from Swindons Walters brought a comfortable save from Baker.
Charlton: Baker, Flack, Dixson, Coombs, Newman (Howlett 62mins), Clifford, Pittuck (Sullivan 75mins), Shepherd, Bergin, Graham, Southgate (Paye 70mins)
