The Charlton Women`s season fizzled out on Sunday with a narrow defeat away to CK Basildon
After a tiring League Cup Final last week and nothing resting on the result the game had a real end of season feel to it.
It was the Addicks who created the early chances with skipper Kim Dixson firing wide before Charley Clifford brought a low save from Basildon keeper Runnacles.
There was some fortune to Basildon`s opening goal after 12 minutes as the ball caught under the feet of Katie Bottom on the 3G surface and Addison stole possession before firing home.
Charlton hit back and Runnacles tipped a long range strike from Grace Coombs over the crossbar.
On 22 minutes Charlotte Lee`s corner was flicked on by Clifford for Coombs to volley home the equaliser.
With half an hour gone Addison put Basildon ahead again with a wonder strike from the right wing that flew into the top far corner.
Charlton pressed forward again and Kit Graham`s powerful effort was saved by Runnacles before Hope Nash bravely avoided a high challenge to send a dipping 20 yard strike inches wide.
Shortly before the break Basildon increased their lead when they reacted quicker to fire home a lose ball after a fine point blank save from keeper Kelly Cooper.
Early in the second half Nash came close to pulling a goal back after winning possession on the edge of the area only to see her effort saved by Runnacles.
With 20 minutes to go Nash threaded the ball through to Kit Graham who fired home to put Charlton back in the match.
Shortly after 17 year old Reserve team striker Emily Ashcroft came on for her 1st team debut.
Cooper pulled off a fine save to deny Rodney before Blackie restored Basildons two goal lead after 77 minutes.
As the game entered injury time Graham added her second of the game but time ran out as Charlton went in search of an equaliser.
