Congratulations to the 1st team who clinched FA Women`s Premier League Southern Division runners-up spot at Coventry United with a last minute winner from Ellie Baxter, her first senior goal.
The Charlton Women`s 1st team came back from a goal down to clinch the FA Women`s Premier League Southern Division runners-up spot with a last minute goal from 18 year old midfielder Ellie Baxter.
A first half goal from Coventry skipper Natasha Lynch gave the home side a half-time lead before two early second half goals from Kit Graham and Kim Dixson put the Addicks ahead. Coventry levelled the score through Hughes and it looked like it would be honours even until Baxter popped up to net the last minute winner with her first ever senior goal.
On the 3G Bedworth pitch it was Coventry who created the first chance but Katie Flack was on hand to make a great block as Alison Hall shot.
Kit Graham then sent a measured through ball to Gemma Shepherd who fired her effort over the crossbar.
On 14 minutes the home side opened the scoring when skipper Natasha Hughes lost her marker and headed home from a right wing cross.
Shortly after the Addicks suffered a blow as centre-back Grace Coombs limped off to be replaced by Rosey Sullivan.
The Addicks began to take a hold of the game and Shepherd saw two efforts from the edge of the area fly narrowly over the goal.
Shepherd`s constant chasing and shutting down put the home defence under a lot of pressure and they did well to clear a couple of dangerous corners.
Charlton keeper Megen Lynch did well to claim a cross under pressure from Hall and neat one touch play from the Addicks finished with Charley Clifford`s powerful strike dipping inches over the crossbar.
For all their possession and chances the Addicks found themselves 1-0 down at the break.
Early in the second half Nikita Whinnett was send crashing in the penalty area only for the referee to wave play on before Shepherd was fouled just outside the area. Kim Dixson stepped up to take a powerful free-kick which took a deflection as it flew into the top corner for a 50th minute equaliser.
A minute late Graham almost extended Charlton`s lead but was foiled by a great save from keeper Sue Wood.
Coventry hit back with skipper Lynch again a threat in the air as she forced Charlton keeper Lynch to make an excellent save.
Just after the hour mark the Addicks took the lead as Shepherd crossed the ball from the by-line for Graham to score with a diving header.
Just four minutes later Coventry were back on level terms as Amber hughes cut in from the right flank to curl a low effort into the far corner of the goal.
Coventry pushed forward and Lynch did well to palm Cristina Torkildsen`s free-kick on to the post before a striker blasted the ball well over.
Charlton hit back and the referee missed a blatant handball which gifted Taylor Wetter possession on a counter attack but Lynch was in hand to foil the substitute with a great save.
Charley Clifford then gifted possession to Hall with a short back pass but the striker fired wide. Hall then saw her lofted shot crash off the crossbar to be nodded home by the off-side Wetter and the goal disallowed.
Going into the last minute Graham`s long range strike was deflected for a corner from which Ellie Baxter fired home a last gasp winner to clinch the points and league runners-up spot for the Addicks.
