In their last match before Christmas the Reserve Team Management Santa Spencer and Rudolph Clark elected to play a Christmas Tree formation as they took on the Hammers for the third time this season.
Following the preceding days torrential rain and gale force winds Suzy the Christmas Fairy was up early to waive her magic wand over the Sparrows Farm pitch to ensure the match was on.
A crowd of around 80, including many of the 1st team whose game had been postponed, turned up to join in the Christmas Festivities. Even some of the elves and pixies from the junior teams turned up, some with sweets and cakes.
The first chance of the game saw Olivia Cole just fail to connect with a Beth Rodger cross and shortly after Rodger shot straight at the Hammers keeper.
Twinkle toes Rogers then went on a mazy run beating several defenders before seeing her shot deflected wide.
On 19 minutes Christmas came early for the Addicks as a Hammers defender, under pressure from striker Beth Rodger, had the misfortune to head a Rogers free-kick past her own keeper to give Charlton the lead.
After 25 minutes Charlton winger Megan Mulholland was forced off with a knee injury, although we suspect she had to leave early for her elf packing duties with Santa.
Shortly after Addicks keeper Alex Baker had to be on her dancing toes as she came off her line to thwart an attempt from Sasha Kelly.
After 35 minutes Charlton increased their lead as Issy Hunter’s right-wing cross was met by Roger who forced a save from the keeper before Olivia Cole was on hand to tuck home the rebound.
The last action of the half saw Addicks keeper Alex Baker do a Snowman `walking in the air` impersonation flying across the goal to tip a 30 yard drive from Hammers skipper Sarah Cleary over the crossbar.
Early in the second half substitute Megan Carroll powered past a defender before curling a shot from the edge of the area narrowly past the far post.
Carroll then forced another save from the Hammers keeper before a counter attack saw Addicks full-back Ruby Southgate concede a free-kick which was comfortably saved by Baker.
On 70 minutes a quick break then saw Hunter one-on-one with the keeper who saved her effort and the ball was cleared for a corner. From the resulting flag kick the ball fell to PHSC Player of the match Olivia Cole at the far post who clinical swept the ball home.
Six minutes later it was the Addicks turn to give away a Christmas present as slack marking allowed Sophie McLean fired home a cross from close range.
In the dying minutes Hunter almost added a fourth as her header from Rogers corner was tipped wide by the keeper.
This win sees the Reserves increase their lead at the top of the League and go into the New Year top of the Tree
