A brace from Vicky Chincharo and a first senior goal for Georgia Richards saw the Addicks to victory over Castle Colts
On a bright December afternoon, Charlton entertained Castle Colts at the Coldharbour Leisure Centre in what would be the last game before the Christmas break.
The hosts started well against the 9 players of Colts and tested the keeper early with shots coming from Beth Rodger, Maria Garzon and Gemma Hyland.
The breakthrough finally came on the 15th minute as Hyland`s well struck corner was met by the head of Vicky Chincharo who stuck the crossbar but made no mistakes from the rebound as she smashed it home from close range.
The second followed shortly after on the 22nd minute as The Reds countered from a rare attack from Castle Colts with winger Tyra Poole beating her marker and cut back to find Vicky Chincharo on the edge of the box to sweep the ball home bagging her brace on return from injury and giving Charlton a 2-0 lead.
Determined to add more The Addicks constantly pushed forward with defender Georgia Richards initiating most attacks forcing Castle Colts to retreat further back forcing Charlton to shoot from long range.
However it was a dynamic run from Gemma Hyland which drew a foul outside the box after 35 minutes from which Richards stepped up and curled the ball beautifully over the wall and into the top left corner leaving the keeper with no chance and extending the hosts lead in the process.
The half petered out without further incident with the scores remaining 3-0.
The second half commenced with the visitors defending from the off as they looked to keep the pitch narrow and compact with tight and resolute defending. This tactic was working as Charlton were unable to unlock the defence with their through balls. Realising that the space on the wings was in abundance Charlton looked to extend their lead through exploiting this and delivered cross after cross but to no avail.
Becoming increasingly frustrated The Reds tried their luck at distance with Keira Hewett-Brown hitting the woodwork and debutant Megan Carroll testing the goalkeeper. However the best chance fell to captain Rodgers after some neat build up play but she was unable to convert with the game finishing at 3-0.
"It`s nice to finish the year with a win and we`ll look to pick up where we left off in the New Year" said Manager Warren Clarke
