The Development Team let a two goal lead slip as the lost out to league leaders Prince of Wales at Canterbury on Sunday
Charlton starting with a 4-4-2 formation, a slow start to the game by both sides with no rhythm in their passing or movement. Great turn and run by Sophia Amanor who made a great pass to Channin Smith, who was through on goal but denied by Prince of Wales goalkeeper.
Charlton were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Tyra Poole stepped up to take it but the shot was just over the bar. Both sides giving away position too easily at this point in the game. A great delivery by Ellie Mae Brown-Araque which landed to Ellie Richards who was fouled and a penalty kick awarded to Charlton. Tyra Poole stepped up and fired the ball into the back of the net, leaving Prince of Wales goalkeeper no chance!! 1-0 to Charlton!!!
Charlton starting to exploit Prince of Wales weaknesses on the wings, Prince of Wales beginning to look slow at the back. Going forward Charlton are looking very dangerous with the pace of Ellie Mae Brown-Araque and Sophia Amanor which is causing problems for Prince of Wales.
Charlton starting to try and play out of the back with our right back Niamh Collins and left back Evie Rose, spreading wide to receive the ball. Prince of Wales still very direct in their play. Our captain Ayse Yuksel is dominating the midfield with great positioning and accurate passing to her forwards. A great turn by Tyra Poole who then releases a pinpoint ball to Channin Smith who goes through on goal and finishes comfortably!! 2-0 to Charlton!!!!
Prince of Wales awarded a free kick outside our box which hits the back of the net, 2-1 to Charlton.
SUBSTITUTION for Charlton : Ellie Richards off and Ti-ya Gilham- Law on
Some great defending by Saliha Topcu, who is looking very composed in the centre of defence with great positioning and perfectly timed tackles. With Prince of Wales being a very direct team, Charlton have dealt with the long balls and physical strength from them well. Referee blows up for half time, 2-1 to Charlton.
A slow start to the second half by both teams who are trying to find their composure on the ball. Charlton are giving the ball away too easily and need to use the wings more. The ball is spending more time out of play with both sides panicking in possession. Charlton are now having to contend with a low sun which is not allowing them to see the ball til late.
No clear cut chances for either side in this half, both centre backs for Charlton have been outstanding so far.
Goal for Prince of Wales with a well connected volley by their number 9 assisted by a great ball in by their number 8. The score is now 2-2.
Goal again by Prince of Wales! A great strike by number 3, poor defending by Charlton who had the chance to clear, 3-2 to Prince of Wales.
Prince of Wales have deserved to have the lead on the outcome of the start of the second half, the home side look more hungry and determined to score and are being more positive when in possession. All the play seems to be going through the middle of the pitch, both sides need to start using the wings more. If Charlton move the ball quicker and start to use the flanks they will worry the Prince of Wales defence with their pace.
Both of Charlton`s centre midfields we`re trying to receive the ball and dictate the rhythm of play but when the ball was received by them they did not have many options to pass to. Movement needs to be better by Ellie Mae Brown-Araque and Sophia Amanor who have not troubled the wing backs as much as in the first half.
With 6 minutes to go Charlton are throwing everyone forward and are starting to dominate the game. Prince of Wales clearing the ball as far as they can as Charlton are starting to worry the home side fir the first time in the second half.
Goal by Prince of Wales! A short throw in was controlled and strikes by their number 20 who lobs the Charlton goalkeeper Hannah Chapman and makes it 4-2 to the home side.
With the game finished 4-2 Prince of Wales overall deserve the victory, Charlton had a very good first half with some very good passing and movement in the second half.
Charlton Team: Chapman, Collins, Rose, Russell, Topcu, Yuksel, Brown, Poole, Amanor Richards (Gilham-Law), Smith
