The Charlton women’s team have won promotion to the FA Women’s Championship after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in the FAWPL Championship Play Off Final at Bramall Lane on Sunday.
Two late first half goals from Kit Graham and Georgia Griffin sealed promotion for the Addicks.

The Addicks looked to be denied a perfectly good goal after just two minutes when Charley Clifford pulled the ball back from the by-line for Olivia Lukasewich to finish from close range.

On the 5th minute Blackburn were awarded a penalty after Sam Pittuck fouled a Blackburn striker Saffron Jordan in the area. Rovers skipper Lynda Shepherd who converted perfectly into the bottom corner to give Blackburn an early lead.

On the 22nd minute Startup made a fantastic save, tipping Flint’s powerful free kick over the bar.

A few minutes later Clifford dribbled the ball well and made space for a shot, but her strike was deflected away for a corner.

Charlton attacks increased and on the 38th minute Gurr’s curling free kick effort was saved well by Blackburn keeper Danielle Hill.

The Addicks’ attacking persistence paid off on the 42nd minute when an inch perfect cross from Clifford found Graham whose powerful header found the back of the net to equalise for Charlton.

On the brink of half time Charlton scored another. A superb ball in from Pepper met Griffin who headed the ball over the keeper and into the net to give the Addicks the lead.

Charlton were in control in the second half, passing well, frustrating the Blackburn team.

On the 54th minute Clifford’s strike from 30 yards out was just tipped away by Hill.

Moments later, Lukasewich threaded a perfect through ball to Graham who was one-on-one with Hill, but the Blackburn shot-stopper did well to claim the ball before Graham could strike.

Blackburn did little to test the Charlton defence in the second half, and their first meaningful attack didn’t come until the 86th minute when a free kick rattled the Charlton crossbar and got cleared for a corner.

The Addicks had the chance to seal the win when Graham was tripped in the box. Gurr’s spot kick effort was well saved by Blackburn keeper Hill.

Charlton held on well to stop any signs of a Blackburn attack and deservedly won the game.

The Addicks have now been promoted to the FA Women’s Championship.
