The Reserves disappointingly slipped out of the Kent Cup at Aylesford
After a week of rain Charlton were finally able to play their Kent Cup Quarter Final against Aylesford.
Despite the difficult conditions Charlton were able to create an opportunity early on as Olive Cole controlled the ball on the 10th minute and set it back to Fran Tye but she was unable to find the net with her snap shot. Charltons next chance came on the 21st minute as Keira Jenkings slid the ball to Cole as her shot was parried by the goalkeeper.
Aylesford replied immediately as they broke down the left hand side but the near post shot was saved by Alex Baker. However Aylesford were awarded a penalty on the 25th minute after Georgia Richards was adjudged to have brought the player down and the striker converted from the spot as the ball flew into the bottom right corner.
Aylesford doubled their lead three minutes later after a long ball wasn`t cleared properly and a through ball was met by the striker who broke through the defence and shot centrally through the outstretched hands of Baker and dipping into the back of the net.
Both teams had half chance which were met by some last ditch tackles and tame shots but neither adding to their tallies for the first half.
The second half began and The reds almost scored within the opening minute as Fran Tye drove down the left hand side and drilled in a low ball across the face of the goal with no able to reach it.
Cole appeared to have reduced the gap as she found the ball on the six yard box but blazed the ball over the bar on the 60th minute. Charlton were dominating the midfield and carved out another chance on the 65th minute as Sharna Giordani raced down the right wing and whipped in a low cross as Cole getting in front of her marker has unable to guide the ball past the Aylesford stopper as she made a near post save.
It was Giordani that reduce the deficit on the 77th minute as Tye once again drove past the full back to cross for Sharna to control and fire the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner.
Unfortunately there was to be no come back as Aylesford threw everyone behind the ball in order to protect their lead. Charlton were reduced once again to half chances and were unable to find another way past the Aylesford defence to send the game into extra time.
As the host held on to the lead to book their place in the semi finals.
"We were guilty of a slow start which gave us a two goal mountain to climb and with that in mind we needed to be much more ruthless in front of goal. We dominated the game in the second half however after failing to convert as many chances as we had we didn`t deserve to win the game". Commented manager Warren Clarke.
