The Charlton Athletic women’s team fell to a 4-0 defeat to Women’s Super League 1 side West Ham United in their penultimate pre-season friendly at Oakwood on Sunday.
All four West Ham goals came in a disappointing first half. Jane Ross put the Hammers a goal up within just 10 seconds before Brianna Visalli doubled their advantage shortly afterwards.

The Addicks had their first chance of the game in the 14th minute, but West Ham shot-stopper Becky Spencer was quick off her line to take control of the ball and stifle the attack.

Two more goals in as many minutes from a trialist and Esmee de Graaf shortly after a drinks break saw Charlton trail 4-0 at the half hour mark.

With 10 minutes left of the first half, summer signing Gemma Bryan drove the ball forward, but a West Ham defender did well to track back to prevent Bryan getting a shot away.

Two minutes later the Charlton midfield orchestrated a swift attack, a through-ball was played into the path of Bryan who fired wide of the post.

The Addicks started the second half brightly, in the 55th minute Kit Graham did brilliantly to muscle off the West Ham defence, however her powerful shot was blocked well.

Minutes later Charlton won a free-kick 25-yards out, Graham struck the ball perfectly, but Spencer pulled off a superb save tipping the shot over the crossbar.

Charlton continued to apply pressure in the second half, and with 10 minutes left a thunderous Graham strike was parried away into the path of Charlotte Gurr who then fired just over the bar.

Charlton: Startup, Coombs, Pepper, Clifford, Kerr, Stobbs, Bailes, Maple, Gurr, Bryan, Graham. Subs: Jackson, Espinosa, Wheeler, Trialist.
