The Development team went out of the Capital Intermediate Cup to an experienced COMETS team on Sunday morning
The Development Team travelled to Clapham Common for their morning kick off against Comets in the Capital Cup.
Comets started strong and were rewarded in the second minute as they immediately put the defence under pressure from a loose throw on to run goal wards and slot past keeper Fern Ferkins.
Captain Ferkins was then called into action on numerous occasions while the reds struggled to find their feet. However the hosts extended their lead on the half hour mark when once again their high pressure play forced an error and the striker was able to get played through on goal and hit the back of the net.
The Addicks sparked into life with some neat play through the midfield allowing Jusara Fernando to force a save from the keeper.
The attempted comeback was short lived as Comets looked to hit on the counter which resulted in a corner. A high lofted ball was not dealt with and the following shot was blocked by some brave defending however the rebound fell to the hosts who`s shot ricocheted of the foot of Annie Morrison to find its way into the top left corner.
Charlton responded well to conceding and began to find their groove creating a number of chances but unable to find the net as the whistle blew for half time.
Determined to get back in the game the tempo was fast with purposeful passing allowing Fernando to shoot narrowly wide of the upright within the first minutes.
Hopes of a comeback were dashed when Comets high pressure was once again rewarded as they latched onto a under weighted pass left Ferkins marooned as the striker rounded her and fired into the net.
Despite the scoreline Charlton continued to dominate possession but were unable to find the consolation goal that their second half performance deserved.
"Today should serve as valuable experience to the team, we`ll talk through the game and look to improve for next week" commented manager Warren Clarke
