Kim Dixson believes she is growing in confidence as the season progresses, leading the Charlton women’s team into the latter stages of two cup competitions and a good league start.
The Addicks’ captain was named PHSC plc Christmas Player of the Month after impressive form in November and December.
During that time, her side have claimed away victories over Millwall and Manchester City as well as a thumping 13-1 London Cup win against Battersea Ironsides.
Dixson said: “I didn’t have too bad a start of the season but I wasn’t playing as I know I can play so I have just tried to kick on as hard as I can.
“I think the Millwall game started that off and I feel like I’m just getting stronger.
“Since my bad injury on my knee, I’ve never really been able to slide-tackle and things like that but my confidence has grown and now I’m going into tackles that I wouldn’t normally.”
Charlton are currently sitting in seventh place in the Premier League National Division but have at least one game in hand over everyone but Leeds United.
To add to that, they have progressed to the League Cup second round, where they face Watford, and the London Cup semi-finals, which is one piece of silverware Dixson wants to win.
“The cup was one of my aims at the start of the season and it still is,” she added. “We have a good chance because there aren’t many clubs in the London Cup that can really hurt us.
“[The season so far has] been a bit up and down but I think we’ve got somewhere now where we’re playing good football and not conceding goals.
“It’s frustrating seeing that table but we know we can beat teams in this league and that’s what we’ve got to do.
“As soon as we start next year we have Portsmouth and we need to make sure that is three points straight away, that’s what we need.
"As soon as we get back we need to get the momentum going, get us playing so I just hope people haven’t overdone it over Christmas and eaten too many turkeys!”
