The Charlton women’s team have made youngsters Ellie Baxter and Georgia Pearch their first signings of the 2015/16 season.
The 17-year-olds are both coming into their first seasons in senior football, having left Chelsea Development team and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Centre of Excellence, respectively.

Baxter, whose younger sister Olivia also plays for the Addicks, ends a long association with the Blues, who she joined from Gillingham aged 12. Pearch, meanwhile, was at Brighton for four years, having turned down the opportunity to sign for Millwall Lionesses the year before joining the Sussex side.

And the pair are aiming high at their new club, having impressed in their cameo debuts against Crystal Palace at Sporting Club Thamesmead on Sunday.

Baxter outlined “playing for the first team on a regular basis” as her main aim, with Pearch agreeing, saying: “My aim is first team, training with them, playing with them and getting minutes in.”

Baxter, a full-back when playing for Chelsea but winger last weekend, added “to score a goal” as an objective, explaining: “I’ve never scored a goal for a team in a major game, so that’s my aim.”

The duo, who go back a long way, also both agreed the atmosphere around the club was a deciding factor when choosing Charlton as their next club.

“At my trial I just felt so welcomed,” Baxter said, “as soon as I came, I just felt that friendliness and family-ness around the club and it’s really nice team to be around.”

Pearch agreed, but added a change of circumstances was also needed, after a long stint at Brighton, saying: “I joined because I wanted a bit of a change. I was at my previous club for about four seasons.

“I wanted some new opportunities so came for a trial and all the girls were so friendly and made you want to push harder to get in and gave me more drive.”
