Megen Lynch hopes Sunday’s defeat to Leeds United will act as a wake up call for the Charlton Women’s team to start picking up some wins
The Addicks conceded two goals within five second half minutes as they were defeated by the Yorkshire side, missing the chance to leapfrog their opponents in the fledgling FA Women’s Premier League table.

Keeper Lynch picked up the PHSC plc Player of the Match award for the game at Bayliss Avenue but has admitted it is no consolation for the defeat.

She said: “I am happy that I played well but the main concern is the team. To be fair I should never get player of the match because the team in front of me shouldn’t make me do as much.

“[The loss] was disappointing but we had a talk after the game. We need to make sure it doesn’t happen again and start cracking on with some wins.

“Hopefully the girls understand a bit more what we need to do and how we can fight against teams that are physically strong and give them a taste of their own medicine.”

Charlton’s game this weekend has been called off due to Cardiff City’s Welsh Cup commitments and Lynch believes the break could well benefit her team.

“When it comes to the matches everyone’s legs seem a bit heavy and maybe we don’t feel up for it,” she added.

“Hopefully having a break will give people time to recover and to think about what they have done, good and bad, so far in the six games and try to improve.

“We could have had worse starts but the results have been a bit up and down so we just need to get some consistency going, even if it is in the middle of brilliant and average, and start winning.”
